Smarty Alarik

Alarik has been every bit as funny as his big brother lately.  I often sing to him while I change his diaper and he just grins and grins at me.  Here's how it went the other morning though:
Alarik:  Stop singing!
Me:  *silence*
Alarik:  Sing sunshine!
Me:  (quietly) You are my sunshine...
Alarik:  Turn it up!

We went into the kitchen where Bekah was playing some Taylor Swift on the ipod.
Alarik:  What's this song?
Bekah:  It's called 'Fifteen'
 Alarik:  I call it...THREE!

Full Fall Weekend

Scott was sitting around in his underwear Saturday morning.  Shortly after telling him to go put at least some pants on, I caught a glimpse of this outside the back kitchen window:

When I asked him what he was doing, he answered, "Mom, I'm a superhero of my own making."  Indeed he was!

During nap time, Scott wanted to shoot his BB gun.

Once they thought they were good enough at target shooting, they wanted to try for the real thing.  Though they sat quietly and watched the woods intently for quite awhile, no squirrels dared show their faces once news had spread of their shooting skills.

Since hunting was a bust, I was able to convince them to help me pick the rest of the tomatoes and clean up the garden a little bit.

We hung up the outside Halloween decorations.  The ghosts were terrifying, as you can see!

What better way to spend a sunny, fall afternoon than throwing the ol' pigskin around?

We also did a little 4-wheeling and I got some fall cleaning tasks checked off the list such as window washing and taking care of all the shriveled up hanging plants.

The kids have discovered a great dual-use for the slide castle:  getting more air on the rope swing!

The Outtakes

Super cute laughing Alarik picture but why didn't I notice how ill-fitting that shirt is?

We'll stick with closer up shots.  I like this one because his fingers really are in his mouth, I'd say, about 70% of the time.

HOORAY! Bekah and Scott are in this picture with me!!!  Hey, why do Bekah and Scott look so shell-shocked?

Oh man, I think a bug flew up my nose.

Looks like Scott spies a mountain lion about to pounce on us.  And Alarik is trying out his sneer.

one...two...three...JUMP!  Uh, I said JUMP, Alarik!

And we're all a little of sync here too:

This was their very own composition idea.

Scott:  "Mom, can I say 'word' instead of cheese?"

Got Some Good Ones

Scott and Bekah's school pictures should be arriving soon and I didn't manage to get Alarik over to the school to get his taken so I had to get outside in this beautiful fall evening and try to snap a few.

Oh, but he looks SO BIG!!!  *sniff, sniff*

Bekah and Scott were helping me get smiles out of him so I threw them in front of the camera for a couple.

Next up...the outtakes.  Stay tuned!

Grouse Hunting

Bekah, Scott and Jesse went out hunting a few nights ago and came home with two woodcock.

The next night when they were getting ready to head out, Alarik wanted to go too so we all went.  While we waited for Dad, Bekah practiced being stealthy.
Looks like she's got it down!

Scott did a lil' dancing on the first leg of the walk.

We gave Alarik a piece of pizza to keep him quieter on the trail.  Not that grouse really care too much about how quiet you are.  They are pretty dumb birds.

We barely got around the corner before Morgan flushed two grouse and Jesse got them both.

It was slow cooker grouse for dinner the next night!

Hawkeyes and Jolly Rancher Suckers

Scott and Bekah have been mass producing Hawkeyes (or God's Eyes as they're also known) ever since Bekah learned how to make them at an event at the EOW Discovery Center.  At one point they decided they wanted to sell them and donate the money to church.  I decided to go in on a booth at the Hwy 38 garage sales with Siri as a good venue to sell them.  At the last minute, we decided to also make and sell Jolly Rancher suckers.

The kids had fun making the suckers and worked hard on signs for their booth.

Their goal was $14 and they ended the day with $18 so it was a success!  Eleanor was selling lemonade and trail mix for cancer and she raised over $100!!!

Great job to all our little entrepreneurs...and their generosity!

Smart Mouth = Smart Brian...right???

Scott has had some doozies lately.  The first was when we got back from camping over Labor Day weekend.  I'd asked him to take the empty coolers off the deck and hose them out.  When he finished he was hauling them back over to the deck when Jesse told him not to put them back there because they didn't go there.  Scott asked where they did go.  Jesse, while thinking where he wanted them, said, "Well, they don't go on the deck."  To which Scott immediately pointed out, "I didn't ask where they DON'T go."!!!

A couple of nights ago the kids were getting out Halloween decorations (yes, already) and Bekah had helped Scott put several things up in his room.  She was wanting him to return the favor and he didn't want to.  I was trying to intervene and tell him he should help her.  He complained he was tired and I said, "You know, it's not fair to use your sister for her help and then not do the same for her."  Scott had another quick response for me, "I thought life wasn't fair."
Dang, this kid is smarter than me!!!

We had a long day today of selling suckers and crafts at the Hwy 38 garage sales and then helping clean up the church's rummage sale.  Scott and I were lounging on my bed and I commented I was pretty tired.  Scott sighed, "Me too." but then quickly clarified, I'm not close my eyes and go to sleep tired.  I'm more like, kick back with the ipad and relax tired."  Ha, ha, ha!

Alarik's Rare Day

Alarik had both mom and dad all to himself for a whole day on Friday.  It was hard to decide what to do first.  First he ran an errand with Dad, then we played in the mud kitchen.

Fall has brought lots of new ingredients for mud kitchen creations, not the least of which is acorns.  We have TONS of acorns on the lawn!

After we'd cooked up all kinds of delectable delicacies, we hopped in Dad's truck to go to the gun range.

Mom shot better at 50 yards, Dad shot better at 100.

Mom says you shouldn't be shooting at deer that far away anyway.  :)
