2013 - 2004 = 9

Yes, the math works...but it still doesn't seem like she should be NINE years old!

Since her birthday fell on Thanksgiving this year, Bekah requested turkey-shaped pancakes for breakfast.  What?  Ok, well, we'll give this a whirl.  I thought they turned out pretty darn good.  You can see my turkey cheat sheet on the counter behind the griddle.

Bekah wanted to give one a try.

I think hers looks more like a dinosaur, what do you think?

Our budding artist has been wanting an easel so that's what Jesse and I got her.

The Pratos had gotten her paints and painting paper so she immediately set to work on her first masterpiece.

She called it "Whale Tails" and Jesse and I were both pretty impressed.  I love her detail of the splash made by the tails done with a slightly different shade of blue and painted on thicker for more dimension.

Now our only problem is going to be finding space for all these paintings to dry and then to be displayed.  I just pinned a neat idea to scan your kids' artwork and then print in small tiles and frame in one big frame.  But I still don't think I could throw away the original!

We're Thankful For...

In the classic go-around-and-say-what-you're-thankful-for, here's what the Storlies had to say:
Bekah:  I'm thankful for Corinne!
Scott:  I'm thankful that when I broke my leg I didn't break it right off!
Mom:  What are you thankful for Alarik?
Alarik:  DAYCARE!!!!
Mom:  Dad and I are thankful for you three because you bring so much joy to our lives.
Scott:  Mom, you guys bring so much joy to our lives.
Aw...  :)

Happy Thanksgiving!

Too Many Pictures? Pshaw!

Jesse was heckling me the other day because he says he can't do anything with the kids without me coming along and flashing a camera in their faces.  Well, how can I NOT when they are so darn cute?

This night they played Sorry! was a riot.  Alarik started out sitting on the floor.  First he got up to get a pillow, sat on it for 2 seconds, then immediately got up to get a blanket and spent several seconds getting himself all covered and situated and comfortable, all while Jesse and Scott waited because it was his turn.  He was about to hop right back up and get himself a drink when Jesse told him to either sit down or not play!  :)

And then there's story time.  I'm sure I'm not the only one who's a sucker for Dad reading to his kids.  It's just so warm and fuzzy.  One fish two fish is Jesse all-time favorite kids book.  He refuses to read Berenstain Bears.  I think it's because they usually make Papa Bear out to be a tool.

Chickadee Hunting

Our little bit of snow melted and it warmed up quite nicely the other day.  Bekah found her bow and suction cup arrows out on the lawn (very responsible, huh?) and decided to try to shoot down a chickadee.

It's a little hard to hit them on the fly!

I'd say stalking them in the bird feeder is cheating, but that's just me.

 LOOK OUT LITTLE CHICKADEE!!!

Oh, he flew away!

This shocked expression is because she actually hit one on the ground.  Needless to say, the suction cup arrow didn't inflict much damage.

You are a beautiful little piece of work, Bekah Storlie!

100 Paper Airplanes

Scott has become enamored with paper airplanes and he set his sights on making 100 of them.  Here they are, numbered and everything!

When report cards came home a couple weeks ago, we learned that Scott had some room for improvement when it came to listening, not having to be told something fifteen times, and living on his own timetable.  Oh wait...no, we already knew that!  So his teacher told us that she's had a hard time finding a "hook" for Scott; something she can use to motivate him.  He doesn't care about missing recess or gym, he doesn't care about extra ipad time.  The only thing she's hit upon, she told us, was paper airplanes.  Jesse and I just looked at each other and smiled!  So now when Scott needs some extra incentive at school, Mrs. Arlt just tells him if he gets his work done she'll give him some special paper and he can make a paper airplane for her son.  Whatever works!  But I'm happy to report that Scott has really turned it around in the last two weeks.  Mrs. Arlt laughed because the day after report cards went home and Jesse and I had a talk with him, he was "on" all day and she asked what he'd had for breakfast, then put two and two together and razzed him about getting a talking to.  Whatever part of all that worked, we'll take it because he's doing so much better.  And we were happy to hear that academically he's just where he needs to be.  Way to go, Scott!

A Future in Government?

No school yesterday and Scott had spent the night at the hunting shack with Dad so when Bekah asked to come to work with me, I figured it was a good opportunity.  She spent the first part of the morning up on the big stage in the council chambers, holding school for a gaggle of stuffed animals she had brought along.

I think she looks pretty official up there, don't you?  Well, minus the Calvin & Hobbes comic book anyway.

Sled, Sled, Sled, all day long...

There isn't much of that first snow left after the last couple of warm days here.  But the kids got more use out of what we got last weekend than probably any other snowfall of their lives.  They were just so excited to get out there and sled and snowboard!

Just a little bit of snow is faster than a ton of snow at once because you don't have to pack a trail down.  This run was a speedy one for Bekah:  ha, ha, ha!

 Pile on!

Bekah and Scott each have a fort in the woods near the sledding hill.

Waiting to go to deer camp

As Tom Petty says, the waiting is the hardest part!  Scott waited and waited for Jesse to get done with his ambulance meeting tonight so they could hit the road out to the deer shack.  I wanted a few snapshots before they left so I entertained him while he waited by taking a bunch and letting him see them.

Or perhaps he was the one entertaining me!

This is his "shooter" pose:

Finally Dad arrived and they grabbed some munchies and headed out.  Love seeing both my guys lookin' so happy.  :)

First Snow Fun

Is the first couple inches of snow enough to sled in?  These five say, YES!

School Picture ?s

It's school picture time and I have some questions.

Bekah, how are you so lucky to get those adorable freckles, that cute sideways grin, beautiful big brown eyes AND that gorgeous hair color?

Scott, WHY CAN I NEVER GET YOU TO SMILE A REAL SMILE LIKE THAT FOR ME WHEN I'M TAKING YOUR PICTURE...EVER???

Ok, I'm done now.  You two are beautiful and handsome and I'm blessed to be your mother!

P.S. Your little brother is pretty cute too.  :)
